FREE SOFTWARE, A cool page with links to all kinds of goodies. Definitely worth a look.
-
AVG- This is a free antivirus software that I’ve been using for years. I’ve seen it find viruses that Norton missed. A must have for any PC on the internet.
-
Zone Alarm- I use the free version of Zone Alarm for my firewall. A must have for any PC on the internet. The paid version is pretty cool too.
-
RootKit Revealer- RootkitRevealer is an advanced patent-pending root kit detection utility. I use it.
-
F-Secure Blacklight- Another beta release rootkit scanner….I’m paranoid yet rootkit free…knock knock.
-
Ad-Aware-Ad-Aware Personal provides advanced protection from known data-mining, aggressive advertising, Trojans, dialers, malware, browser hijackers, and tracking components. This software is downloadable free of charge. I use this along with Spybot-S&D AND Windows Antispyware…..and I ain’t above using more.

uTorrent- This is a cool BitTorrent client. It’s a new way to transfer files…go to BitTorrent for all the info.
-
Linux…kinda spooky for the rookie, but worth the time…a free operating system, and these are all bootable “Live CD’s”. You just set your cmos to boot from a CD and you can take a test spin of a Linux OS, all for free, and without installing or hosing up your Windows rig. How cool is that? Here’s some I dig:
-
DSL Damm Small Linux- This is a 60mb distro of linux.
-
Puppy Linux- Don’t get rid of that old PC, boot Puppy Linux on it and give it a new lease on life. Here’s a link to some instructional videos for Puppy linux.
-
KNOPPIX- This is a full featured Linux Distro. I’ve used this to rescue data off of a nonbotiing windows machine.
-
GeeKBoX- This is a small OS you can use for a media server. Take that old PC, put a big hardrive with all yer mp3, pictures, videos, movies, granny tranny goat pron or whatever in it, and slap this bad boy on it and you got a slick media server.
- FrozenTech’s LiveCD List- A killer list of Live CD’s. These are various duty bootable Linux distros.
-
CDCC- This is a cool little app I found that burns ISO images to bootable CD’s. A must for anything from the LiveCDList.
-
Tux Magazine- This is a free downloadable magazine about Linux. A good place for the latest on Linux.
-
GOOGLE- I’m a big google fan. Check it out:
-
Gmail- Googles free feature packed email. Never lose another email, you get 2+gigs of space for email. I use it EXCLUSIVELY. It’s still officially in Beta so you need to get an Invite. I have 100 so drop me a line and you’re in!
-
Gmail File System- Gmail File system provides a mountable Linux filesystem which uses your Gmail account as its storage medium. Email me for a Gmail invite.
-
Google Homepage- Once you have a Gmail account, you can make your own Goolge Portal to the web. You can add RSS feeds and add headlines from just about any webpage. You can also see snippets of yor Gmail. There’s also a local weather feature. The link is to a Screen Capture of my Google Homepage.
-
Google Commands- Search smarter by using Google Commands
-
Google Products and Services- Google has a lot more to offer, so check this out.
-
Google Earth- I just had to mention this. Ever seen on CNN when they zoom in from outerspace to a small place on the globe. Thats what this does, plus you can add your own points on yer own map and share them with others. You need a broadband connection for this, but it’s still pretty cool.
-
Audacity- Audacity is free, open source software for recording and editing sounds. It is available for Mac OS X, Microsoft Windows, GNU/Linux, and other operating systems. This is the poormans Pro Tools. Awesome.
-
VLC- Video Lan Client is a free media player, the program supports playback of OGG, MP2, MP3, MP4, DivX, DVD, and a whole slew of other file types. In addition, it also can function as a streaming media server.
-
Guitar Pro 5/ Guitar Pro 4 Guitar Pro guitar tab player that uses midi. Version 5 is $59 and worth it. Version 4 has a free demo that’s limited to 20 measures. You can go to MySongbook.com and down user contributed tabs for songs and lessons. Really Cool.
